  • Effectively established Tristar as a credible source for heavy machining and fabrication for the marine industry by driving an aggressive business development strategy leveraging the company’s strong technical and facility capabilities in conjunction with my personal marine background.
  • Won a high percentage of prospective new marine business, securing accounts with such notable clients as the U.S. Navy and Rolls Royce.
  • Delivered more than 30% profit margin on a key project for the U.S. Navy, overseeing a complex effort for the fabrication of a transportable deep-sea rescue submarine deployment system.

Led an 18-member engineering team while directly supervising and supporting administrative and terminal staff as chief of all day-to-day engineering operations and maintenance.   • Achieved hundreds of thousands in cost savings by enabling in-water maintenance of the drop-trailer pusher barge’s azimuth drive, eliminating an expensive, time-consuming dry-docking process.
  • Delivered dramatic cost savings, freed up vessel crew for more critical tasks, and avoided challenges inherent within a new collective bargaining agreement by recommending and securing approval to outsource preventative maintenance for propulsion engines.
  • Significantly improved the strength and long-term functionality of the vessels by re-prioritizing the maintenance budget to focus on critical internal repairs.
  • Realized $500K in annual fuel cost savings by streamlining the trip times across all ferries and eliminating a costly, fuel-draining “quick trip.”
  • Provided an innovative, economical solution to a long-standing lighting and safety issue.

Mechanical & Marine Engineer 

Managed mechanical design and installation of complex yacht systems including piping and plumbing, maneuvering, fuel conditioning and measuring, HVAC, and navigational systems. Additionally provided ongoing maintenance to various yachts with particular focus on designing, installing, and maintaining HVAC and hybrid systems. 

  • Rapidly promoted to take on management of the entire mechanical engineering department, leveraging in-depth knowledge as the company’s sole mechanical engineer to train the technician team in key mechanical functions.
  • Played a key role in the complete mechanical design and installation of an 80-foot catamaran yacht.
  • Installed one of the industry’s first hybrid systems, making an innovative step towards standardizing this revolutionary technology for marine use.

  • Train the technical staff of the industries on different disciplines of engineering, namely, auto repair, workshop processes, welding, basic electricity and electronics, preventive maintenance, safety, job costing, plant layout etc.
  • Entrepreneurial development through preparing project proposals, feasibility studies, machinery selection, data collections etc.
  • On-the job training of the technical staff of different industries through visits and working on the floor.
  • Prepared data-base for the industries division of the Ministry of Labor, Commerce & Industries for more than 120 industries in the computer system and updated them up to 1992.

Mechanical Engineer Specialist 

Over-all in-charge of the Mechanical Section of the Dredging Project for the Government of Fiji Islands, responsible for the maintenance of two cutter-suction dredges and one mini agitator pump dredge (built under my partial design and full-time supervision), two tug boats, drill rig, one barge mounted booster pump, a submersible barge and a number of other marine structures, bulldozes and other earth-engaging equipment.

  • Conducting Classroom and on-the job training on steel structures, hydraulics, welding, IC engines, Transmission gear, and electrical technology, technology of repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Preparation of technical instructions and handouts on different engineering disciplines.
  • New and modification design for marine, farm and industrial structures.
  • Commissioning of equipment like sandblasting machine, pipe threading and cutting machine etc.
  • Supervision of repair and maintenance jobs.
  • Preparation of specification, technical and economic analysis for engineering items, both for dredging and workshop operations.
  • Design of personal evaluation system for the technical staffs.

  • Demonstrator of machinery and equipment, conducting laboratory experiments and workshop practices.
  • Repair and commissioning of a computer-controlled Process Control Simulator and compressed air system.
  • Repaired breathing apparatus, smoke generator, two PARKINS marine engines, Piston type and centrifugal pump testing equipment, design and modification of a Crossly diesel engine from manual to air-starting system.
  • Installation of 5 tons long-span Overhead Crane supplied by United Nations.

Overall in-charge of the Marine workshop responsible for technical supervision, finance, administration, job costing, tendering etc.

  • Repair of ocean-going, coastal and deep-sea fishing vessels.
  • Industrial engineering repairs like commissioning of 400 cu.m./min air compressor for Oxygen manufacturing plant, conveyor for LPG plant, design and construction of Stainless Glucose Mixer machine for Glaxo Co. etc.
  • Operation and maintenance of Container-Handling Equipment like, Top-loaders, Hustlers and Trailers for Overseas Containers Ltd. (OCL), Compagne Generele Maritime (CGM), American President Lines (APL) and United States Lines (USL). 

HIGHSPEED SHIPBUILDING & HEAVY ENGINEERING. CO. LTD., Dhaka, Bangladesh · 1980-1984

Deputy Manager 

In-charge of Ship design and construction section.

  • Designed and constructed 8 nos. of 350 tons capacity self-propelled barge for Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) of United Nations and a fast Patrol Boat for Inland Revenue Department (now being used by Bangladesh Navy).
  • Supervised construction of four deep-sea prawn trawlers (Bay Fishing) and an Inspection Launch (Water Board) and four coastal cargo vessels (Highspeed Group).
  • Electrical design and fitting of FAO Vessels (described in paragraph b) as an in-charge of electrical section.
  • Designed and supervised the construction of a 600 HP Tug Boat for Port Authority, built by Dhaka Dockyard.
  • Revamping work of the Main Crude Oil Heater including main shell repair, replacement of alloy steel pipes of Radiant Zone and Carbon Steel pipes of the Convection Zone.
  • Replacement of refractory insulation of the interior surface of the main shell, glass-wool insulation of the convection zone and the chimney and lining the insulation by stainless steel plates on studs.
  • Supervised Microprocessor controlled Heat Treatment and Isotope Radiography of the pipe welding joints.
