What I have done recently for my personal and/or professional development
From January 23, 2006 to the 10th February we went through major dry docking of M/V Carrier Princess, a drop-trailer ferry. The starboard side Lufkin Gearbox was repaired and more than 2000sq.ft of deck and shell plates were changed. Major challenge was the repair of the cracks on the rudder stock.
From March 05th 2005 we started with an association of Bangladeshi engineers in BC, Canada. We are now over 85 engineers trying to help each other in professional and personal skill development, job searching, networking etc.
Recently I have been selected the Meeting Chair for Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers(SNAME), British Columbia Branch.
From 6th to 10th December 2004 I went through fulltime training on Essential Management Skills at Sauder School under UBC.
From 1st April 2003, I have started wortking as Manager, Vessel Maintenance & Engineerng for Seaspan Coastal Intermodal Company under Washington Group. This company has few ferries that transport freight trailers and hazardous cargo.
On 16th October 2002 I have attended a seminar hosted by Canadian Institute of Marine Engineers, Vancouver Branch. The topic was "Deep Sea Ship Repairs".
I recently attented a four-days long "Leadership Training" workshop and suggest every one to take this kind of training for your personal development.
In the April 2002 issue of Marine Technology journal from The Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers(SNAME, USA), I am one of the author of the paper titled "Optimum Design of Small Craft". Please read it and send me your comments.
On 24th and 25th of October 2002 I attended a number of professional development seminars at the APEGBC's AGM at Victoria, BC. These seminars covered subject like professional ethics, marketing, management and technical presentations.
